Janice Serilla is the designer behind her Santa Cruz, California based business, Mackerilla Design.

She started designing and creating Mackerilla brand bags in 2001. lt all began because a former employer was going to toss out a bunch of new fabric "leftovers." These fabrics would all have ended up in the local landfill.

Janice decided to take the upholstery fabrics home and make some use of them. She made a simple backpack for herself to use while out riding on her Cruiser bike. Little did Janice know at that time that she had just created her first of many, "Cruzer" backpacks. She would then follow up with more design styles, by listening to what women wanted and needed in carrying an every day functional bag. The "Mackerilla" brand name was then created by combining her husbands and her last name together. Mackerilla Design was then born!

WORKING TO HELP SAVE OUR ENVIRONMENT
At Mackerilla Design, our goal is to use high quality fabrics and create a bag at an affordable price for our customers. We utilize high end durable fabrics from upholstery manufacturers and furniture designers. These fabrics acquired, are called "Bolt Ends", which are their unused yardage left over from completed projects. This means that our fabrics are limited and are subject to change. Most of these fabrics are Italian made and are water resistant or washable wool blends. These wonderful fabrics would possibly end up being tossed out or dumped into a storage facility where they would be lost forever! Mackerilla Design wants to do its part in saving our environment by utilizing these quality fabrics. By doing this, we also have created a desire by our customers to own more than one bag due to our limited fabric choices and the high quality of these fabrics. It gives Mackerilla customers their bragging rights about the fabric that they chose is not owned by everyone. So every Mackerilla bag owner can feel a bit special!

PATTERNS FOR ALL YOU "DIY" CRAFTERS!
In 2007, We had started to create patterns of the Mackerilla brand handbag designs to sell to all the crafty types that want to make one of the designs. We have successfully created a line of patterns and continue to add in new designs. They are sold here on this website and on Janice's ETSY page. They are also sold through pattern distributers to fabric, quilter shops and online retailers.

ASSORTMENT OF FABRICS
Most of our wholesale orders are sent out in an assortment of fabrics to our clients. But you may also request fabric samples and choose which patterns suits your shop best. Due to our limited yardage, you will be asked to choose a secondary fabric in case we run out of your first choice.

CUSTOM DESIGNS
Sometimes our customers have specific bag needs. We can design and create an exclusive "Mackerilla" bag for your shop. Please contact us for design services, pricing and fabrics.

MADE IN SANTA CRUZ
Mackerilla bags are all handmade in Santa Cruz, CA by our team of local seamstresses. Each bag is made with care and inspected for quality. We stand behind our bags 100%

CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Mackerilla brand bags are not to be dry cleaned due to the vinyl backing of our interior PVC liner fabric. They are washable in cold water on a gentle cycle then shaped and air dryed. They can be spot cleaned as well.
